InfoWorld – Amazon’s Relational Database Service (RDS) creates a MySQL database server in the cloud. The notion of “database as a service” is already a reality, thanks to products like FathomDB. Amazon itself provides EC2 instances running MySQL, and Amazon’s SimpleDB service offers capabilities similar — but not identical — to Amazon RDS.

PC World – Seagate Technology. the world’s largest hard-disk drive maker, is planning to launch a new drive that’s 25 percent thinner than current models. The 7-millimeter high drive will allow laptop PC makers to further reduce the thickness of their computers and is scheduled to be launched at January’s Consumer Electronics Show, the company said in an email.

PC World – Research In Motion will develop a version of its BlackBerry handset that supports China’s homegrown 3G standard, TD-SCDMA, the company said Tuesday, expanding an existing partnership with operator China Mobile.
