Keyword selection for Internet marketing articles is an area that every article writer should be familiar with. While it is far more important to write and publish articles to gain the benefit of creating traffic and building back links, there is a lot more that could be gained in both areas if proper attention is paid to keyword selection.  To many writers who are writing Internet marketing articles, keyword selection is a mystery.  It is one of those areas that are avoided because it can be a bit daunting. It really need not be as it is not that difficult to get a handle on.

I will take you through the simple steps of keyword selection and when you have read what I have to say you will be far more comfortable with the process of writing internet marketing articles that are more effective because of keyword selection.  After you have applied the these basic principles of selecting appropriate keywords two or three times you fill find it becoming very natural to your writing process.

First, determine what you want to write about.  What is your subject?  With that in mind, you begin to think about possible keywords. It is a good idea that we are all on the same page regarding keywords. Keywords are simply the words or series of words that people use to search for something, anything, on line.  As an example if someone were seeking a specific movie they might use the word “movie” or “theater” but more likely the name of the movie itself.

Because the way people look for something on the Internet is via search engines, it is important that you make it easy for the search engines to find you, and your article. For that reason keywords are very important for making it easy for the search engines to find your Internet marketing articles.

To find the right keywords you will need to do a little keyword research.  Don’t worry this is pretty easy and does not take much time.  A good place to start is with a tool provided free by Google. It is Google Adwords Keyword Tool. With just a little bit of practice you will soon be mastering keyword selection.  I suggest you select keywords that have a fair number of hits monthly, but not those in the top 50% of hits.  The first half will have a lot of hits, but that means a lot of competition so getting decent page placement is more difficult.

As you are writing your article and using your keyword selections, and it is OK to have three or four keyword phrases, you will want to end up with somewhere between 1% and 3% keyword phrases in your article. So if you write a article that is about 500 words, you will want each of your keyword selections to appear somewhere between five and fifteen times and be scattered throughout your article.
